Girls Taking Action and Boys of Hope tap the power of mentors

Girls Taking Action and Boys of Hope, run by The Power of People Leadership Institute in Minnesota, are expanding their programs to provide mentors to close to 1,000 at-risk youth across 27 schools. The programs aim to inspire, motivate, empower, and engage young people to be successful in school and life. Students have shown a high level of interest in the programs, highlighting the need for adult role models. The new mentors are encouraged to "speak with authority" and create a positive environment for their young participants. The founders of the program are looking to disrupt the school-to-prison pipeline and divert students to higher education, community college, and trade schools.
